Yesterday was my mom's birthday. I wasn't quite sure how the weekend was going to go, but so far, so good. Friday night my friend, Amy, came down for a visit. We went out to dinner, caught up, had a sleepover, hit up Starbucks, walked around Bloomington, and did a little shopping. It was wonderful to have her visit!
It was kind of a tag-team pass off because Amy left just as my dad arrived. Yes, my dad came to visit me! I was pretty shocked to get him to commit with his busy schedule, but he did. It was wonderful. I got to show him my new apartment and gave big the tour. It takes all of 3 minutes - tops. But it is all mine and that is a wonderful feeling. :) Bella and Diego were very happy to see their grandpa. Diego couldn't keep his sniffer off him. Dad was just as happy and exclaimed, "Kitties!!!" when he saw them. After everyone was happily reunited, John arrived and we headed to dinner.
We arrived to downtown Bloomington and I was happy to show off the magical Christmas Bloomington Square to my dad. Click here for a teaser: Bloomington Square at night. It looks amazing in person and it gets me excited for the holidays. White lights cover all the trees surrounding the square and creates a canopy over the streets. For Bloomington lovers, it truly feels magical. We decided on Malibu Grill (a rumored favorite of John Mellencamp's) and enjoyed our evening of great wine, food, and conversation. It was wonderful.
As I got ready for bed last night, I hoped I spent the day as I should celebrating my mom's memory and I realized I did - but not deliberately. It was spent with family, lots of love, and laughs. Although my mom wasn't present to celebrate, she left us with so much to celebrate. Instead of celebrating the day as a happy birthday, we celebrated it as a happy day.
