mär d grä

Mardi Gras (mär d grä) : An occasion of great festivity and merrymaking (Sums up people getting crazy, the long days and even longer nights...)

This weekend was wonderful. The Burketts all came to St. Louis and we had a huge throw down that lasted all weekend. Thursday night John and I picked up Keenan and Monte from the airport and it was so great to have them here. We caught up and I even got a second wind at stayed out until after 1am...getting up for work was a little rough. I was spastic all day at work trying to get out early, but that didn't happen. I came back and we went out to Blueberry Hill for dinner and had a nice relaxing night before the Mardi Gras festivities the next day.

Mardi Gras a good time, but it would have been a little less stressful without the 700,000 people. We lost Steve for about 2 hours and he was only standing 50 feet from us, but we couldn’t find him. Cell phones don't work when 700,000 people are drunk dialing their exes, so we left voicemails and almost had to resort to smoke signals. We eventually found Steve and had another reason to celebrate.

We came back to the neighborhood and stocked up on some good food. I was convinced I was going to pass out at the table because I was in "comfy mode". All I sought was complete comfort and it took everything in me not to go home and crash. Maybe my veggie burger was a magic burger because guess what, the second wind hit.

We got locked out of the apartment, it is a long story, but that gave us only one option. We had to seek refuge and shelter at the bar. We were just going to hang out for a bit, but we should have known better. We arrived at the bar before 8pm and probably left 2 drinks too late. I couldn't believe we were all such troopers and made it through the day. Well, not everyone made it, the boys were the fastest to drop. Soon our necks hurt because were carrying around so many beads --that should be the universal sign to call it a night. I'm glad we got locked out because we had the best time at the bar. A great band played songs and we drank lots of wine. Even the bartender became our best friend, giving us Mardi Gras masks after he realized we were going to be the bar rats for the night. Even though I used the nastiest port-a-pottys (potties?) all day and had to wait an hour for each, was a nanometer from getting my shoes urinated on by some jack*** in the crazy crowd, and ran on minimal sleep the past few days, I still had the best weekend. I better relax now and try to get some quality sleep without beer, jager, and lots of wine in my stomach. This weekend was truly a great festivity full of merrymaking.

To truly display the fun we had, I think a before and after photo gallery is required:

Cancer is so limited.
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot erode faith.
It cannot destroy peace.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot suppress memories.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot erode the spirit.
It cannot conquer the soul.

I'm trying to keep this in mind.

Woof. Let the best dog win.

Most of you were probably watching the Super Bowl last night…but I spent more time watching the Puppy Bowl. Yes, the ingenious show on Animal Planet. I’m thinking about writing a personal letter to the network asking for Puppy Bowl to create more episodes or at least go into syndication. I must mention that this is also coming out on DVD, which I think is a little strange. I might have to draw the line there. I hope one of you out there watched this. If not, you can check it out here. The deal is a bunch of dogs are released on a mini football field with tons of toys and other dogs. It’s basically the biggest puppy party on the planet. Big band music is played in the background and there is a mock audience in the background. Flashes of light make it appear that people in the stands are going crazy and taking lots of pictures…almost like the Opening Ceremony at the Olympics. There are cameras under the puppies’ water bowls, so when they take drinks we can see their cute faces up close. Sometimes the dogs go to the bathroom on the field and some guy walks out in a ref uniform and picks up the poop. I told you this show was amazing.

Halftime is called the kitty halftime show. Now you know I went crazy at this point. They released tons of kittens on the field and had this huge kitty toy apparatus that consisted of feathers, springs, tunnels, and flashy toys. The television looked like it was going in fast forward as the cats attacked one another and played 10 times faster than the speed of light.

My Favorite:
Barry

John's Favorite:
Badger

Puppy Bowl returned and every few minutes a new doggy was thrown in the mix, John and I chose our favorites and basically acted like they were seriously our dogs in real life. From what I hear, this might have been more exciting than the first half of the game. I think I could have had a perfect night watching Randal El running around the puppies. This show made my night, except when the dogs pooped on the field.

Uneventful Events

I haven't been feeling very well lately. I spent the last few days feeling miserable. I don't have much of any importance to write about, but I feel like writing. I'm just going to share some random thoughts and events that have happened in the past few days.

  • I walked around all day with what I thought was a "scrunched sock" but when I came home and kicked off my shoes I actually had a little bag of who-knows-what, but it said something like Silicagel, throw away, do not eat...
  • I crossed the street tonight with a fellow pedestrian and some really angry man wanted to run over me. Instead he decided to lay on his obnoxious horn that rattled my already hurting head. The fellow pedestrian snarled at him.
  • I designed something at work that will actually be mailed out to over 10,000 doctors.
  • I still cannot find anything to wear every single morning.
  • It has been impossible to get out of bed lately. I wait until the very very very last second to roll out of bed.
  • The lack of shower pressure the past week has really put a damper on my mornings.
  • I better start seeing some good singers on American Idol.
  • I started biting my nails again :(
  • I think about getting a professional massage about 5 times a day.
  • Nothing makes me happy like coming home and getting in my comfy cozies!
  • Booters hasn't made it on http://stuffonmycat.com yet, but I still laugh at every cat.

I'm going to head back to the couch and try to nurse this never-ending headache.
