No, my mom isn't having a baby! My sister got engaged over the weekend in Vail! Matt proposed in Vail Village and I was excited for it to happen. I knew it was coming for a little while now because Matt enlisted me a top secret engagement agent. I can't believe I am going to have a brother in-law. We have no boys (besides my dad) in my immediate family, so this will be fun! I am so happy for them. Congratulations, Courtney & Matt!

Out of my den
Even I thought I was being dramatic when I used the word "blizzard" in my last post, but that is exactly what we got. We were under a "blizzard warning" for couple days and I'm glad to be integrated back with civilization. At times I thought I was reverting back to a caveman (sorry Geico caveman). I'm very happy to defrost in Southern California in 2 days.
I have to say that for the most part, I did enjoy a couple snow days. I took a nap each day, made delicious dinners, watched TV and movies, and bird watched. Yes, bird watched. John and I watched the little fat puffed up ones, the Cardinals, and even a Blue Jay which reminded John of his pet bird, Jay Boy, who ultimately got crushed by a neighbor on accident. I watched John put on multiple layers of clothes and duke it out with the snow blower. I followed suit and put on multiple layers of clothes to take some winter pictures.
We were finally able to leave the house around 3:30 yesterday and my mom and I got our hair done. I got mine totally chopped off. It is a pretty big change for me. And then for Valentine's Day my parents and John and I went out for a wonderful dinner. It was nice to be out of sweatpants, out and about, and interacting with people. I think being cooped up for a couple days really made the dinner more enjoyable. I don't like winter, but I have to say the good thing about it is that it surprises you with snow days and allows you to spend time with the people you love.

Blizzard Blues
With the winter storm rapidly approaching, I have realized that this could be me in the next 24 hours.
It doesn't seem like that long ago I was dining al fresco and now the outdoor seating looks like this:

Can you dig it?
I decided to have some fun with an online quiz that is supposed to tell me in what year I belong. I found out I belong in 1973. I wish I belonged in a cooler year - I feel like I am a '50s or '60s girl more than a 1973-er, but I guess this test knows best. It is no wonder why I always love "The Sound of the '70s" CD commercial when it comes on. But honestly, we have to thank the '70s for, like phrases like "leisure suit" and "Have a nice day." I learned all about the phrases of the '70s here. I don't know why half these phrases phased out. I am going to study up and bring some of them back. It is my duty as a 73-er. Anyway, don't be a "cheese weasel" and have some fun and see what year you belong in.

I swear I have this exact photo from my childhood. Guess not many things changed.
Play that funky music.
Look, I was on a date with JB!

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em
The people have gone mad. Totally mad. I've never been to the circus before, but I think it would be somewhat like my office today. I keep catching myself thinking that I am in an episode of “The Office.” Today is the last hurrah for people to celebrate the Colts at work until the big game on Sunday. I thought everyone seemed totally nuts on Monday, then more on Tuesday, and so on. Let me tell you what is going on this week. My office has a couple hundred people in it, but my department is located on the 2nd floor. There are quite a few of us and everyone is psyched for the game. My co-workers started to decorate a few days ago and I was pretty impressed with the blue and white streamers all about the office, but I think that just opened the floodgates for more décor. It seems like the only requirement for the decoration is that it must be blue. It doesn’t matter if it is a napkin or a duster, it is in my office. We have a mock goal post with a football piñata hanging from the ceiling. We have inflatable blue aliens (what?!) dressed as bride and groom (what?!) and completely decked out in Colts paraphernalia. They recently were moved to my cube as we took our “congratulations you won the decorating contest” photo and they are creeping me out because they are just looking over my cube at me with their beady little eyes. I can’t walk down any hallway without dodging balloons, streamers, or massive banners. I randomly hear people blast Colts music from their cube. On Monday we received an office email letting us know all the activities for this week and I thought it just sounded a little too much like summer camp. Yesterday we had lunch catered and then were invited to watch the Colts vs Bears game on Madden. Videos games, people. This is totally “The Office.” We all piled into a big room and watched on two projector screens two guys play football on XBOX. There was cheering and jeering and I think some people thought they were really at the game.
I just got back from our office Pep Rally where we there was punch, snacks, games of cornhole going on, and the biggest and most anticipated announcement – who won the office decorating contest. Hands down, my department won and we will receive a pizza party and the circus will continue. I am actually getting into all this hoopla and I’m not even phased by the fact that I am decked out in a Colts t-shirt with my face painted (along with everyone else’s) and that there is tons of blue and white food behind me on the hallway file cabinets.
I am pleased that I participated in the impromptu pitch-in and my blue and white brownies looks stellar. Just moments ago, the football piñata was demolished by 2 or 3 guys as the rest of us watched. I wish someone would have taped it with their camera because it was pretty hilarious. I guess it is true what they say, if you can’t beat 'em, join 'em! I am and I’m loving it!
